The third NOTRE meeting is going to be held in Geneva from the 16th to the 18th of January 2017.
The meeting is going to take place at the MIRALab facilities at the Centre Universitaire d’Informatique in Geneva.
The meeting will include presentations from MIRALab and a visit to their facilities. Presentations will be given also by two SCRC members, Dr. Despina Michael-Grigoriou and Dr.Andreas Lanitis.
A structured proposal writing workshop will be also held, a brainstorming on research ideas.
MIRALab will also hold a Training Course which will focus on “Virtual Humans”. It will focus on “Virtual Humans”. In this context MIRALab will provide expertise on Virtual Humans and especially their applications to the Smart Specializations Strategy of Cyprus, particularly Tourism. MIRALab is a leading research lab in this field with its director (Prof. Nadia Magnenat Thalmann) being assumed a pioneer scientist internationally in the research area of Virtual Humans. Her work spans from the well-known first simulation of a 3D version of Marilyn Monroe back to 80’s to more recent work on facial and body deformation methods and cloth simulation. This workshop will give SCRC of CUT new directions of exploiting realistic Virtual Humans within virtual social environments with applications in tourism. Examples of such applications could be 3D reconstruction of populated areas with historical value and virtual tourist guides using virtual intelligent agents for communications.
Moreover, three PhD students from SCRC (Popi Stavroulia, Christos Kyrlitsias and Maria Christofi) will be visiting MIRALab for three weeks (from the 9th to the 30th of January) and will be working with three researchers of MIRALab (Yvain Tisserand, Simon Senecal and Yanlong Tang) on a project aiming at the development of a Virtual Reality application and a serious game, in which the subject will interact with a Virtual Human.
