The 5th NOTRE project meeting took place during the 11th, 12th and 13th of December, 2017 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Hosted by the German partner for NOTRE, Heinrich Heine University/University of Düsseldorf, the meeting offered project partners the opportunity to discuss project-related developments and future actions, as well as partake in proposal-writing workshops, in both plenary and individual Working Package groups, discussing possible common application to open funding calls, as well as present and future collaborations for conducting and publishing their respective scientific work.
In addition, participants were offered two training sessions pertaining to the current state and future possibilities for participating in democratic processes using new Information & Communication Technologies were provided by Prof. Stefan Marschall & Nadja Wilker of the host institution and SCRC member dr. Vasiliki Triga. Finally, the consortium was joined by Prof. Martin Mauve, dean of the HHU/UDUS faculty of mathematics and natural sciences for a panel discussion on the challenges of conducting interdisciplinary internet research.
Following the project meeting, a NOTRE-related public event took place in cooperation with the UDUS graduate school “Online Participation”, where Prof. Panayiotis Zaphiris, coordinator of the NOTRE project had the opportunity to present the consortium, as well as SCRC to a broader audience of members of the public, fellow scientists and practitioners, as the event served as the kick-off for OP@LL, an international conference for participation on the local level (diid.hhu.de/opll-conference). In the interactive poster session that followed the opening remarks for the conference, NOTRE was represented with two poster presentations; the first, on using information technologies for citizen participation and engagement by DEI members P. Díaz, T. Onorati, M. Romano & I. Aedo and the second, by SCRC members V. Triga & V. Manavopoulos on collective action in Greece during the economic crisis present online.
